Bristol International Kite Festival 25th anniversary

The Bristol International Kite Festival celebrates 25th anniversary this year. The 25th Bristol International Festival of Kites & Air Creations will take place in Ashton Court Estate, Bristol over the weekend of 3rd & 4th September 2011.

Organisers are planning an action-packed aerial extravaganza to celebrate the Festival’s 25th anniversary with international kite guests winging their way from as far as New Zealand, Kuwait and Thailand to join flyers and enthusiasts from across Europe. The arena programmes will feature spectacular flying displays, kite fighting battles, breathtaking synchronised routines flown to music and awesome power kites as well as colourful ground-based inflatables and air sculptures of all shapes and sizes.

Festival highlights will include:

· Spectacular and colourful sea-themed kites including giant swirling octopi and squids, a flying scuba diver, a giant mermaid and Roly the mega killer whale
· Special shapes including flying bears, tigers, dogs and cats designed and made in New Zealand by festival favourite Peter Lynn
· Team sport kite routines choreographed and flown to music including The Decorators quad line display team and Scratch Bunnies the current World Sport Kite Champions
· The brute power of man-lifting kite surf wings and the thrills and spills of kite-propelled buggies and land boards
· Aerial combat with traditional Japanese fighting kites each vying to be the last one in the sky

For the second year running the festival will be supporting the Great Western Air Ambulance as its nominated charity. Last year the charity’s distinctive helicopter wowed the crowds as it flew in and out of Ashton Court and visitors were allowed to look round the aircraft and meet the crew. The charity will also be inviting intrepid bears and soft toys to take part in special sponsored parachute jumps from a kite as part of its fundraising drive over the weekend.
